Frequently asked questions
How do you ensure your activities are accessible for all children?
At Nature Freedom, inclusion is at the heart of what we do. We ensure our activities are accessible by carefully designing each program with input from specialists in accessibility and by continuously consulting with community groups, including those representing people with disabilities. This collaborative approach allows us to adapt our activities, ensuring that children of all abilities can participate fully and safely. Our guides are also trained to provide support and adapt activities on the spot as needed to meet everyone’s needs.
What measures are in place to ensure the safety of my child during activities?
Safety is our top priority. All our activities are risk-assessed, and our guides are trained in first aid and emergency response. We maintain a low participant-to-guide ratio to ensure that every child receives the attention and supervision they need. Before any activity begins, we provide safety briefings to participants and ensure that all necessary safety gear is worn. Parents are also provided with detailed information about what to expect and how to prepare their child for the day.
Can children with specific dietary needs be accommodated during school holiday camps?
Absolutely! We understand the importance of catering to specific dietary needs. When you register your child for our school holiday camps, you’ll have the opportunity to provide detailed information about any dietary restrictions or allergies. We work closely with our food providers to ensure that all meals and snacks are not only safe, but also nutritious and delicious, making sure every child is well-fueled for their adventures.
What if my child has never participated in outdoor activities before?
Our programs are designed to be welcoming and supportive, making them perfect for children who are new to outdoor adventures. Our experienced guides are skilled at introducing activities in a way that is engaging and accessible, to ensure every child feels comfortable and confident. We believe in fostering a positive environment where children are encouraged to try new things at their own pace, with plenty of support and encouragement from both our staff and their peers.
How do you select and train your guides?
Our guides are selected based on their expertise in outdoor education, their passion for nature, and their ability to connect with and inspire children. Each guide undergoes a rigorous training program that includes first aid certification, inclusivity training, and detailed instructions on the specific activities they will be leading. We also ensure our guides are equipped with the skills to create a supportive, positive, and fun learning environment for all participants.
What happens in case of bad weather during outdoor activities?
We closely monitor weather conditions and have contingency plans in place for all our activities. In case of mild weather issues, we adapt our programs to ensure they can continue safely, which might include moving to sheltered areas or adjusting the activities to suit the conditions. For severe weather conditions, certain activities may be cancelled. We also have indoor alternatives that are equally engaging and fun, ensuring that the adventure can continue rain, hail, or shine. Parents will be notified in advance of any changes that might occur to their child’s scheduled activities due to weather.
